Songkran Deaths Mount

BANGKOK: — Highway carnage over the past six days of the seven deadly days of Songkran, April 9-15, now reached 306 with 55 more people killed in a single day yesterday and 538 injured.

Suthee Markboon, deputy minister of Interior, stated at the press conference at the Department of Public Disaster and Mitigation, before noon today that 55 more people were killed and 538 injured on Tuesday, the sixth day of the seven dangerous days of the Songkran festival from April 9-15.

A total of 509 highway accidents happened nationwide yesterday, bringing total death toll in the past six days of the dangerous period to 306 deaths, and 3,070 injuries in a total 2,915 highway accidents.

Surin recorded the highest death toll of 15 and highest accumulated injuries of 124.

Provinces which registered the highest highway accidents are Surin and Phitsanulok of 109 cases each.

Drunk driving is the main cause of most fatal accidents

Today's results are not in yet and Pattaya celebrates until Friday.
