Back in the Gym

Today's Song is: Turn the Page .. Waylon Jennings

Thavorn and I headed out for some bar hopping on Thursday night to find out if much has changed in a week.  We started off walking down Soi 22 and there is still no music being played at the bars, but the bars were busy as usual. We walked over to Country Road on Soi Cowboy and it was a little bit busy, but traffic on Cowboy itself was down and all the bright neon lights were turned off.  The live bands at bot bars at the end of Cowboy were both MIA and won't be back until the 30 day mourning period is over. I hope the band members had put a little bit of money in the bank to eat with during the month.

We headed up Cowboy to Shark bar to visit Tacky and once inside, it was business as usual with loud music being pumped out. Lots of customers, but mostly young Japanese and Korean male tourists. We stayed and chatted with Tacky for an hour or so and then headed home, picking up some street food (chicken feet) along the way. We found Jaidan still awake and my new glasses broken, but hopefully fixable with superglue.

Yesterday was my first visit to the gym and it was great. The gym has every machine available and the locker room has private showers, shampoo, body wash, hair driers, q-tips, etc. I think I will go every day while Thavorn's children are here to lose the 3 kilos I gained since coming back to Bangkok, but also for some peace and quiet :-)

Thavorn is a bit bored and when pressed, stated that it would be great to have a vehicle of some sorts so she could go back and forth to the village to visit her mom and friends once a month. It will be something to look into in the new year.

So, life in Bangkok, as usual, goes on in some semblance of what it usually is. The nightlife in Bangkok is resilient and meets some primal need to cut loose and indulge in your own 'Hangover 2' experience.

  1. Well that was fast. No music, but otherwise business as usual really by the sounds of it. Everybody outside still wearing dark colours I assume.

  2. Yes, black and white colors are in for this month :-) Dark blue and grays are okay as well.
