Lazy Jimmy

Today's song is: Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan

Dylan performing in the summer of 1964 ... that makes me 13 at the time.

Dylan was a real poet. Take some time and read the lyrics ...

"Mr. Tambourine Man"

Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand
Vanished from my hand
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming.

Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip
My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels
To be wanderin'
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way
I promise to go under it.

Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Though you might hear laughin', spinnin' swingin' madly across the sun
It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facin'
And if you hear vague traces of skippin' reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind
I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're
Seein' that he's chasing.

Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey ! Mr Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

I just noticed my last post was on Saturday and here it is Thursday morning. Bad Jim!

Sunday, if I remember correctly was a quiet day at home. However Thavorn, Jaidan and I were up early Monday morning to take Jaidan to the medical clinic where he goes for his bimonthly checks and inoculations. Jaidan is still doing well in growth. He is at the 97th percentile in height (80 cms) and is still off the charts in terms of weight at 13.4 kilos. Jaidan is not fat, but chunky like his Dad. He is quite strong and is now able to open every drawer in the apartment. He is into everything. My daily workout is carrying Jaidan around for 2 or 3 hours at a time.

Jaidan was due for 2 shots and the nurse recommended that he get one during that visit and come back in a month for the second shot. That means Thavorn will have to go to the clinic with Jaidan by herself as I will be in Canada. Not that unusual for Thai women to look after children by themselves. I keep telling Thavorn she is spoiled having me at home 24/7.

I was also scheduled to do a 90 day reporting visit to the Thai immigration office on Monday but I learned last time not to go the Monday after a long holiday weekend so I went on Tuesday instead. The good news is I was done in 20 minutes rather than a couple of hours. The bad news is that put me back in a return taxi at 9:30 am which is still part of the incoming morning rush hour traffic in Bangkok. My wait period just got shifted to the taxi. A 40 minute taxi ride was now almost double in time and cost. Lesson learned, go on a Tuesday and go a little later in the morning or seek out a place to have a leisurely breakfast before heading back downtown.

Yesterday, Wednesday was hump day as usual so Thavorn, Jaidan and I headed out to Rendezvous Bar to see what the tourists were up to and then headed off to Soi Cowboy about 6:15 pm (after the end of happy hour at Rendezvous) where happy hour goes from 6 pm to 9 pm (like most happy hours in Cowboy bars). Drink are typically 80-90 baht at happy hour and 120-150 after happy hour ends.

Jaidan enjoyed the music as always but was a little frustrated at the bar girls lining up to hold him. Such is life in the fast lane for the little guy. The nice thing about hump day is that Jaidan is usually tired by the time we get home at 9 pm and goes straight to sleep which gives Thavorn and I some free time.

I have been busy programming my own webserver with integrated websockets for real time message and data exchange. I have also added pdf generation to handle reporting. Why would I do this when their are many commercial and free webservers available? The same reason I took my bicycle apart when I was 10 and my my Norton 850 motorcycle when I was 22. I have this thirst for knowledge about how things work. I also like creating and building things. I think I have a creative spark in me. When a day goes by without something learned ... it goes by wasted.

I hope your days are filled with learning and interesting activities. If they are not you should be asking yourself if you are living your life or simply existing. You only go around once :-) unless you are a Buddhist and then you get a Mulligan or do over. Contrast that with Christian religions where behavior is guilt driven with a delayed reward in the afterlife. I am still baffled where the wisdom dispensers on things such as sexual activities are people (priests) with no practical experience in those activities.
