Songkran week has the most traffic carnage of any week in the year. The Prime Minister decided to ban passengers in the back of pickup trucks but has backed down and plans to enact the new law after Songkran. I doubt if this law will ever be enacted as pickup trucks are perhaps most common form of travel for lo-so Thais. It is not unusual to see 10 passengers loaded into the back of a pickup.
