Swimming vs Running

I much prefer running to swimming but my new apartment does not have a gym,  but it does have a pool. I try to swim Monday to Friday for a kilometer. My pool is only 10 meters so I have to do 100 laps. It gets a little boring at times, but no more than a treadmill.
However, the weather is great and the view of Bangkok is excellent.

Back in Bangkok

I arrived back in Bangkok on Tuesday morning at 5 am after a very long flight from Ottawa. My flight from Chicago to Hong Kong was delayed by 4 hours. Add those 4 hours to a 16 hour flight and you get one sore ass flight! I ended up missing my connection to Bangkok but the good news is United booked me into first class on Hong Kong Air for the remaining 3 hours.

It basically takes me 3 days to recover completely from the jet lag. There is a 12 hour differential between Bangkok and Ottawa. Jet lag makes me sleepy and a little fuzzy headed (at least more than normal for me :-).

I had a great visit with my sister Elaine and managed to see the remainder of my family (Ann, Bill, Jaime, and Jordan) for a little bit as well. Thanks to Billy Fox, Don Burke, Mike Baine, Larry Brown, Liz Klassen, Brent Wilson, Mike Laurie, Mike Kolberg, and Matt Bender for sharing a beer or two with me at Big Rig. I miss you guys and gals.

It was only fitting that it started to snow the night before I left. I will not miss the cold and snow that is descending on Eastern Canada at this moment. I am just getting ready to go for my daily swim in beautiful sunshine and 30 degrees. It is the start of the dry season in Thailand and temperatures will range from 26 at night to a high of 30 degrees with very little humidity during the day.

The first visitors of the Fall, Terry Wilson (Brent's son) and Melissa (significant other) arrive at 6 pm today and I look forward to showing them around Bangkok over the next couple of days. As always, I encourage any of you, with an adventurous spirit to come visit Thailand. Air Fares are about $1,200 return and I have a spare bedroom that is always available.

Here is an interesting graphic showing the average earnings for the Thai people. Divide by 30 to get Canadian dollars.
